Established in 1897, R. J. Wood & Co. Pvt. Ltd. still has its Office at the State Bank Of India Building in Delhi. This Company is the Family Parent Company and for over 100 years of its existence its activities have varied from being the sole import and distribution agents for a variety of British goods Manufacturers during the early 1900's to running some of the first Departmental stores in Delhi during those times. Post Independence the company and the family H.U.F S.S.Gupta & Co. were the sole wholesale distributors for the northern India of such prestigious Textile Mills as Mafatal Mills, Sriram Mills and the Sri Niwas Cotton Mills. 1970's onwards the company embarked upon International Trade. Our first Exports were of Textiles to the newly formed Bangladesh.

We were for sometime, the largest exporters of textiles to that Country Later during that decade our exports jumped many folds and covered Iran, the Middle East, Sri Lanka and parts of Europe and Africa. We were amongst the earliest recognized Export Houses during that time. We were the first in India to moot the idea of a Diamond bourse in India. In the late 1980's and up to 1990 we were also into importing a variety of Industrial consumables.

Promoter's Profile

Both the promoters were involved in the business from a very young age. In his teens, Mr. Brij Bhushan was responsible for shipping out more than 20 million tons of Salt from Kandla Port. Mr. Kunj Gupta, slightly younger was responsible for ensuring schedules for deliveries from various mills for our export orders. Both the Promoters for example have to their credit ensuring shipment more than 10 million meters of Fabric to Iran in one single year in 1980. Meeting targets and schedules is thus ingrained in their persona.

Both the Promoters were involved in researching the market before placing orders negotiating purchases promoting sales and administration of the entire distribution network. The family, over the years made Investments in real estate, primarily at New Delhi and Mumbai. Their involvement in the process of buying and selling various properties gave the Promoters valuable insight into the real estate market. Prime Family Properties such as the entire 7th Floor at Maker Chambers IV Nariman Point, provided the opportunity on several occasions to interact and negotiate for lease with some of the largest corporations and non-corporate bodies in the world.
