Dr. PRAKASH KAMAT, a medical practitioner, has an unparalleled hobby of collecting the most exotic type of gramophone records. We are started this collection in the year of 1966. After passing three examinations of Gandharva Sangeet Vidhyalaya, he purchased records of personal interest and was soon absolutely fascinated by their variety. He has been collecting them since the past 32 years beginning at the age of 18. Actually as a record collector just the number of them is not aof any significance, rather it is the variety that has to be taken into consideration” says Dr. Kamat. He has gramophone discs with over 2500 labels records from 38 countries and of 33 regional languages –apart from Hindi, Marathi and also Sindhi, Punjabi. Awadhi, Magadhi, Urdu, Telugu, Bhojpuri etc.
They have an enviable track ‘record’ that would have any music lover drooling for more. Formed in 1992 by Dr.Prakash Kamat, ‘Survihar’, is a group of music enthusiasts that collect and listen to records. And lest you dismiss their passion as ordinary, Survihar has 10000 records of every possible size, speed, label, origin and languages, to show for their collection.
