Dr. Jagannathrao Hegde born in 1943, Dr. Hegde displays an irrepressible optimistic spirit that is so typical of ‘born and brought up in Mumbai’ personality.Qualified as Dentist, he has been practicing Oral and Dental surgery in Mumbai for last 35 eventful and successful years.
Dr Hegde was lucky to have parents who believed in brining up their children on old fashioned traditional values of integrity of character, respect for the elderly and faith in coming up in life by sheer hard work. Hegde family encouraged each of its member for getting involved in social issues with utmost commitment.
Right after starting his dental practice, Dr. Hegde was deeply involved in assisting his patients outside the clinic. He helped his patients in getting medical assistance, educational opportunities, and entrepreneurial possibilities. His clinic in Parel became the center of guidance and counselling for mill workers, middle-class society from trade, business and service industry.
Rotary club and Lion’s club drew his contribution liberally for free Dental camps, medical diagnostic camps and sports competitions.
As the Dental practice grew, Dr Hegde started heavy personal contributions in cash and kind to social causes.
Recognition and laurels came from Medical community (he is the Chairman, Medical cell - Bombay Regional Congress Committee) as well as Maharashtra Government (he is appointed on Shree Siddhivinayak Trust, Prabhadevi).
His presence on academic scene is equally prominent. He is Vice President of Abhyudaya Education Society School.
Having started and run- Terna Medical College, New Bombay; and -Dr D.Y. Patil Dental College; he also served on the senate of Mumbai University as member of Executive Council.
He is the founder president of Lions Club of Midtown.
He is equally active in sports promotion ( he is patron of Amature Bodybuilding Association and Bombay District Carrom Association. He organized ‘Kamgar Shree’- the biggest competition held in Kala Chouki, apart from other competitions (Kho-Kho, Kabaddi) for the local constituencies.
His extremely busy Dental practice did not come in the way for finding time for working as member on Government appointed panels of as diverse committees as- Sports Council of Govt of Maharashtra, Dental Council of Govt of Maharashtra, Employment Committee of Govt Of Maharashtra, Police advisory committee and State Employment Insurance Scheme of Govt of Maharashtra.
He has worked on the advisory committee of prestigious public hospitals like Cama Hospital and ESI Hospital at Worli.
Over one-lakh students have benefited from the various free dental checkup camps and free medical camps that he has organized in schools in and around Mumbai.
