Background:

She had always been fascinated with flowers. Flower arrangements in different styles come naturally to her. A graduate in Home Science from SNDT, she had learnt flower arrangements and in 1980 she did a basic course in lkebana (the Japanese art of arranging flowers, leaves and stems in vases and containers). She got hooked on to lkebana and since then she has appeared for eight exams and is a second master in the art of lkebana.

Her entry into the flower business was accidental. There was a wedding in the family, and they wanted anthuriums and orchids. She arranged for these flowers for the wedding. Later, she did the decoration for her brother’s wedding reception and was appreciated tremendously by both her friends and relatives. It is by word of mouth that she started getting clients and started her career as a supplier of exotic flowers.

At present:

Her regular clients include the Ambanis, Ruias, Godrej and ITDC Grand Maratha hotel. Currently, she is also doing fresh floral bouquets for Citibank and the Rahejas. Her business includes doing backdrops and floral decorations for banquets and hotels too.

Geeta’s specialty lies in providing good quality flowers like tulips, birds of paradise, orchids and anthuriums. She has orchids of more than 15 varieties, some of which are priced at Rs.150 per spike. It is only during the wedding season that she is extremely busy, working for 16 hours a day. The rest of the year she supplies bouquets and flowers. Muni has her retail outlet in the building she stays in Girguam, Mumbai and now has a staff of four to assist her. During peak seasons, she hires more temporary staff.
